There will be a
reminder call after items are overdue 14 days with a second notice call after
the item is overdue at least 20 days.
After 6 months, a third notice in the form of a bill will be sent for
the cost of the item plus all fines accrued to that time and a $5.00 processing
fee. Failure to receive a notice
will not be considered grounds for waiving a fine. A printed receipt for payment for lost
and damaged items will be given to the patron. Prompt payment of overdue fines,
replacement costs and a processing fee for lost materials is expected. Borrowing privileges are suspended if
there is an overdue item for which the replacement cost has been assessed or a
fine(s) has accrued in excess of $10.00.
Borrower accounts exceeding $100.00 in fines and/or unreturned
materials, or exceeds 1 year will be sent to a sheriff for collection with the
patron incurring all processing costs.
If a patron claims
to have returned an item, a search will be made by both the Library
“staff” and the patron.
A determination will then be made as to whether the item will be removed
from the patron’s record.
Exceptions: Residents proving undue stress or medical
illness may be exempt from fines on a case-by-case basis. Being on vacation is not a valid reason
for unreturned, non-renewed items, lost or damaged items.
Maximum fine: There is a maximum fine of $5.00 each for all overdue library
materials returned within one year, exclusive of damage to materials.
